Clients' 22 FAQ

What is your background?

I am a trained linguist with a university degree in translation plus 30 years of experience in technical translation and revision.

Where are you located?

I am a native German and resident in Germany.

What languages do you work in?

English (UK and US) into German only

What texts do you translate?

Technical documents. Over the last 3 decades, I moved from engineering and mining to IT/telecom, now I do a lot of translations related to medical equipment and e-cars.

What CAT systems do you use?

I prefer SDL Studio, MemoQ, DejavuX3, but I also work in Idiom Worldserver, memsource and XTM.

Our CAT system is free and online-based. Interested in using it?

Maybe. Your system should allow XLIFF export and import. My experience shows that complicated long texts and meticulous QA cannot be done in a pure online system. If I can download and upload my translations, it is different.

What is your rate?

My prices depend on complexity and urgency. I charge a minimum of USD 40 per hour and USD 0.12 per new English word. Rate may go up to USD 0.15 for a complicated subject.

Would you reconsider your rate?

Nope. I have no problem to fill my desk. Send me the complicated texts where other people resign. I may be prepared to discuss a bulk discount for each job larger than 20,000 words.

Who will translate my documents?

It is me. I offer human translation into German by a native German linguist.

Do you treat our documents confidentially?

Yes. I can sign an NDA if required. Documents and data are stored on a dedicated system with controlled access. I delete old files as soon as my invoice is paid. Your documents will not leave my office and will not wander around.

Are you a certified /sworn translator?

Yes, I am sworn at German courts as an English translator. Certified translation means the translation is re-checked by another translator. I have hired a colleague for that purpose.

Are you certified acc. to ISO 17100?

No. Certification is for larger agencies working with many people in different roles. Registration involves extra cost to get and stay certified which may be reflected in higher rates. I run a small business, we work acc. to the ISO 17100 principles, but have no formal certification.

Are you a member of a professional organisation?

I am a member of the German Translators Association BDU, the German eqivalent of ATA.

How do I send my files?

Click on the Send your text menu button to upload into our CRM system. I can also download from your FTP server or download link.

Do you provide German transcreation?

Yes, I do, but for Germany only, not for Switzerland or Austria.

Do you provide revisions of German translations?

Yes, I do. Rates depend on input quality and start at USD 0.03 per English word.

Do you provide transcription, technical writing, and DTP services?

No, that's not part of my business
